Robert Peston: He's the business

Entry from 'Thoughts from the Kerbside' - The Big Wheelie Bin Blog
A thoughtful and sometimes humourous look at the world of waste, brought to you by industry observers. We'd like to create a vibrant blogger community going forward, so if you'd like to become a regular blogger for LAWR, please get in touch - we'd love to hear from you!
Robert Peston is my favourite journalist. His description this morning of the world's press being crammed battery-hen style onto a bus for hours while waiting to pass security into the G20 summit talks was class.

If you're a fan too, you can read it here.

Mr Peston has, for me, been a rare beacon of honesty ever since the global financial meltdown began to drip quietly ... he's your proper 'scoop' man, he has the right mix of charm and brain to work out where the next crisis is coming from, even before the world's financial leaders and city boffins wake up to their croissants and coffee. I guess you could call him an inspiration of sorts.

In these media-savvy times of flickr and twitter and witter (I made that last one up - but remember, you heard it here first) your average journalist, not to mention editor, is often overwhelmed with new technologies to conquer, leaving precious little time for real reporting – to carve a name and reputation for yourself, and your work.

Ask every journalist what drives them deep down and they will say "the truth". The truth can often get lost, or buttered up - after all, that's what you employ PR agents for. So I take my hat off to someone who can cut through all of that, expose corruption where it exists, and deliver a stinging message to the masses.

Oh, and make you laugh along the way.
